Indoor Water Conservation

Conserving water is becoming more important as time goes on. A way that you can help is indoor water conservation. Not only does saving the water you use in the inside of your own home help reduce wasted water, it also saves you money on monthly water bills! Here are some tips for reducing water use in the home.

  • Fix leaks promptly.  Even a small faucet drip can waste several gallons of water each day.
  • Avoid letting the water run when rinsing vegetables, cleaning dishes or defrosting food.
  • Wait until you have a full load of dishes before running your dishwasher.
  • When washing clothes, adjust the water level to fit the size of the load.
  • Avoid using the toilet as a wastebasket.
  • Take shorter showers and/or replace your old showerhead with a newer more efficient WaterSense model.
  • Replace older toilets with new WaterSense labeled models and save 20-75% each time you flush.
  • Use low-flow WaterSense labeled faucet aerators to reduce the flow of water out of your sink.

There are toilets, shower heads, aerators and other products that are certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for low flow for water conservation with the WaterSense label. WaterSense labels meet the specifications for efficiency and performance and are backed by third-party certification. The City of Lebanon is giving out FREE WaterSense low-flow showerheads and WaterSense low-flow faucet aerators (limit 1 per household).
